Vegetables and fruit: the foundation
Low in calories, rich in water, fibre, vitamins and minerals, they fill you up well. Aim for at least 400 g a day (about 5 portions), with vegetables at every meal.
Ideas
- Fill half the plate with vegetables at lunch and dinner.
- Keep plain frozen vegetables: practical, cheap and nutritious.
- Whole fruit rather than juice; vary colours to vary nutrients.
