Fried food, cold cuts and fatty sauces
Fat provides 9 kcal per gram, versus 4 for protein and carbohydrate. Fried food, cream or mayonnaise sauces, cold cuts and fatty cheeses push calories up without being as filling.
What to do
- Cook in the oven, steamed, grilled or pan-fried with little oil.
- Measure oil (a teaspoon) rather than pouring it.
- Choose lean cuts (skinless poultry, fish, lean ham) and yoghurt-, mustard- or tomato-based sauces.
